LAST DAY Reflection - Classroom Activity

The LAST DAY Reflection activity guides students through meaningful end-of-year reflections using prompts based on the acronym “LAST DAY.” Each letter represents a different aspect of their school year to reflect on, such as lessons learned, achievements, memorable moments, thankfulness, and future goals. This activity fosters self-awareness, encourages gratitude, and helps students set positive intentions for the upcoming school year.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to identify and practise emotional responses.
  • We are learning to use comprehension strategies to find literal and inferred meaning in texts.

Differentiation

Modifications

•    For Students Needing Support:
-    Simplified Prompts: Provide examples or sentence starters like “One thing I’m proud of is…”.
-    Verbal Responses: Allow students to share their reflections aloud instead of writing.
-   Small Group Discussions: Facilitate small group sharing to help students brainstorm ideas.

•    For Students Ready for a Challenge:
-    Detailed Reflections: Encourage detailed written reflections with explanations of how experiences helped them grow.
-    Presentation Opportunity: Invite students to present their reflections to the class as a mini-speech.
-    Creative Elements: Suggest adding illustrations or drawings that represent their reflections.

Extensions

•    Classroom Memory Wall: Compile student reflections to create a “Memory Wall” display.
•    Year-in-Review Journal: Combine completed reflections into a journal for students to keep as a memory.
•    Goal Setting for Next Year: Transition the reflection into a goal-setting activity for the new school year.
•    Peer Sharing: Pair students to share their reflections with a partner, building communication and listening skills.
