English Unit: Making Inferences

English Unit: Making Inferences

This is a progressive unit plan to assist students to learn the comprehension strategy of making inferences. The unit begins with a presentation to assist teachers to explicitly teach inferring. The presentation and aligned worksheets, start with making inferences from images, which leads into sentences and sequentially, longer paragraphs. The unit contains an inferring poster, as well as task cards which can be used in a class or group setting. At the completion of the unit, there is an assessment, as well as student ‘badges’, that celebrate the students’ ability to infer.
